Brandon & I are getting married! I am going to attempt to keep all pertinent (and maybe not so pertinent) information on this blog. Feel free to check back often and I'll try to post just as often. Don't hesitate to leave comments, questions, etc!
The FAQs
Does your wedding have a theme?
Of course! Since Brandon & I share a love of movies, naturally the overall theme of our wedding is "Movies!” We have a secondary “Vintage” theme due to my irrational love of anything vintage!
What should I wear?
We would love for you all to be slaves to our themes! Perhaps it would be fun to dress up in your Red Carpet best if you're more into the "Movies" theme! Or maybe you'd enjoy embracing the fashions of decades past if you're leaning more towards the "Vintage" theme! If neither of these suits you, we encourage you to simply dress to impress!
Are there any colors that guests should avoid wearing?
Although we will be doing many things non-traditionally, I WILL be wearing white so you probably shouldn’t! Our wedding party will be wearing chocolate brown with blue accents. There will also be splashes of red throughout the wedding. You should probably avoid wearing all those colors!
What kind of shoes should I wear?
Dancing shoes!
Will there be dancing?
Please see above ; )
How do I get to the venue?
Please double check the contents of your invitation! We included directions!
What time should I arrive?
The ceremony is scheduled to begin at 6:30pm. You should probably arrive between 6 and 6:15, especially if you want a good seat!
I am coming from out of town. Where should I stay?
We have booked a block of 19 rooms at the Crowne Plaza in Southbury, CT. <-- That link will take you to the page specific to our block of rooms so you can book right online if you so desire. If you'd rather book over the phone, the number is 203.598.7600. (You can call that number with any related questions, too, because I won't be able to answer them!) You need to book your room no later than October 10th to get the special rate.
Is there transportation being provided between the reception and hotel?
Yes! We have arranged for a big yellow schoolbus (seriously!) to transport our guests between The Crowne Plaza, Southbury and The Inn at Villa Bianca.
Where should I park?
If you will be staying at The Crowne Plaza, you can park there and take the shuttle to The Inn at Villa Bianca. If you are not staying at The Crowne Plaza, The Inn at Villa Bianca has plenty of parking both in the front and back of the building.
Will I have to pay for parking?
Absolutely not!
When is the RSVP deadline?
We are asking that you kindly RSVP by Sunday, October 14th.
Are kids welcome?
We are only inviting the children in our immediate families. This may be more of a blessing than a slight to those of you with children. As an example, my sister has decided not to bring my beloved nephew to the wedding. As much as I will miss having him there, my sister and her husband will be able to fully enjoy the ceremony and reception and my 6 year old nephew won't be bored by an event with few children for him to play with.
Can I bring a date?
The invitation is only open to those listed on it. However, all you single people should keep in mind that weddings are a great place to meet other singles!
Are the ceremony and reception locations wheelchair accessible?
Yes!
What should/could I do between the ceremony and the reception?
We will be doing something that has gone out of fashion in recent years: Having a receiving line! You should come say hi to us! You should definitely hug us (we love hugs!). You could catch up with other guests and discuss what you liked (or didn't like) about the ceremony. You could even people watch!
Will food be served?
Yes! A variety of hors d'oeuvres will be served during the cocktail hour. We will all enjoy dinner sometime after. Since the reception is starting a bit late (7pm), I highly recommend treating yourself to a snack to tide yourself over sometime before the ceremony.
What kind of food will be served?
You should expect typical wedding fare. I hope you like typical wedding fare! And cake, don’t forget the cake!
What if I have a dietary restriction?
Please note this on the reply card!
What time will the reception end?
The reception is scheduled to end at midnight. However, if your dancing shoes are still intact, the bar at the Crowne Plaza will stay open for us until 2am!
Can I take pictures?
We want you to be able to really enjoy our wedding day, feeling truly present and in the moment with us. We’ve hired amazing photographers who will capture the way the wedding looks and we invite each of you to sit back, relax and just enjoy how the wedding feels. We respectfully ask that everyone please leave all cameras and cell phones off during the ceremony and the “ceremonial” parts of the reception, including the first dance, parent dances and cake cutting. We ask you to refrain so that we can see your face and you can see ours, both at the wedding, and forever after in the photos and video that our photographers and videographers will capture. Of course we will be happy to share our wedding photos with you afterward!
Is there a gifts registry?
Getting us a gift is certainly not required or expected, but if it is something you would like to do, Brandon & I are registered at Deposit A Gift for a(n eventual) down payment on a house, as well as Target and Bed, Bath & Beyond for some household items we'd like to replace!
Will last names be changing after the wedding?
Yes! After the wedding, I will from then on be known as “Amber Upson.” Brandon has decided to remain “Brandon Upson.” ; )
